Trainee Painter

We are looking for someone to work alongside our Painter to learn how to paint and powder-coat our products to a high quality, with a minimum of rework and in suitable timescales.This position is full-time, based in Newbie and reports to the Production Manager.

Key Objectives: Painting and Coating of products within the Annan Manufacturing Facility to a high quality standard, with a minimum of rework and in suitable timescales to meet customer delivery expectations. 

Main Tasks Undertaken: Hand painting, spray painting and powder-coating of industrial steam & hot-water boilers and ancillary products.  Preparation and application of stencils to shipping packing cases.  

Skills and Qualities Desirable: Reasonable level of education and a willingness & ability to work at height using safety equipment.

    • Mechanical Design Engineer 

      • Key Objectives - Mechanical Design Engineers are responsible for all stages of a product/specifications, from research and development to design and fabrication/manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning.  

      • Main Tasks/Responsibilities: Working in conjunction with production, providing timely calculations/designs/drawings / Project manage design and potential construction opportunities.  Assisting in estimation of tenders / Looking for and implementing continuous improvement of existing products / Developing and implementing procedures relating to in-house workflows, installation, testing and end user operational manuals for equipment, including maintenance schedules and spare parts lists / Assisting in the design of quality control documentation/manuals to suit each product / Liaising with suppliers, production, sales, industry experts, project managers, site engineers to establish correct application for each product / Researching, reviewing, checking, approving and ensuring that all products are and remain code compliant to the latest standard / Owning and drive new product designs from start to finish ensuring our products are globally compliant / Provided detailed drawings with SolidWorks/ AutoCAD / Providing technical support and guidance to workshop fabrication teams.  Exploring opportunities to minimize cost associated with compliance needs / Driving a PRO-CUSTOMER culture in order to provide proactive and timely service to internal and external customers* / Writing reports and documentation. Providing technical advice and support to Senior Design Engineers / Reviewing, analysing and interpreting customer/ supplier data and specifications.  

      • Skills and Qualities Desirable from Post Holder: Degree qualified (or experience equivalent) in Mechanical Engineer of similar technical subject / Good computer and IT skills, specifically AutoCAD, spreadsheet and database packages / CAD Design and Drafting experience / Ability to establish problems and come up with innovative, cost effect solutions / Demonstrable experience in a similar role / Relevant design experience in a mechanical or process design role / Relevant experience within a similar industry. 


      • Electrical/Control Engineer 

      • Key Objectives:  Timely and accurate production of Electrical Schematic and logic drawings, for all products. Assist in all aspects of the Electrical Engineering functions, including planning and procurement, filing and storage and archive of drawings and data.  

      • Main Tasks/Responsibilities:  Produce drawings to engineers’ specifications / Design and detail of electrical circuits for control panels, for new boilers combustion systems, and other associated ancillary equipment / Design and detail of electrical circuits for control panels, for system upgrades on existing boilers, e.g. combustion system upgrades, control system upgrades, energy efficiency upgrades / Produce electrical drawings according to Summary of Contact requirements / Produce kitting stages according to Summary of Contract requirements / Produce bill of materials according to Summary of Contract requirements / Produce purchase requisitions according to Summary of Contract requirements / Checking of drawings presented by colleagues / Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers as required / Liaise with Mechanical draughtsman to ensure on time delivery of panel information / Liaise with Buying department with respect to panel supply to ensure on time delivery of panel information / Work to the spirit and intent of the company systems, procedures and instructions specified in ’750 series’ / Maintain office records including boiler files, drawing files and microfilm archive / Report conflicts in work schedules to the Section Leader / Liaise with other functions of the business and their staff as required / Attend meetings, lectures, symposia, demonstrations and other functions; both as an active participant and recipient on behalf of the company / Undertake any other duties as directed by the company, as required in the pursuit of company business.  

      • Skills and Qualities Desirable from Post Holder:  Working knowledge of materials and processes / High level of numeracy / Able to work under pressure / Ability to identify, set and prioritise tasks / Experience and proven record of CAD operation, preferably AutoCAD LT 2014 or later / Knowledge of British and International standards affecting the electrical design aspects of the business.


      • Trainee Sales Engineer 

        The Sales Office is the hub of all Sales activities within Cochran in terms of boiler product enquiry management, the tendering process and customer support through to order receipt and issuing of internal manufacturing instructions. Operating strictly in accordance with established processes and procedures, including the Company Commercial policies, we strive to deliver an excellent customer experience and measure our success through various KPI’s.  

        You will have already gained a recognised Engineering qualification through an Apprenticeship route or at HNC/HND/Graduate level.  You should be able to work effectively under direction or on own initiative whilst handling multiple-tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.  You will have excellent use of written and verbal English language and be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office programmes.  The ability to read technical drawings and specifications would be a distinct advantage. 

         As part of your training programme you will work towards gaining skills, knowledge and experience to carry out the following key duties:  Review of enquiries received to understand customer requirements and matching of Cochran products and services through detailed tender preparation / Preparation of tender price analysis for agreed scope of product offering. This can either be from available product price lists if standard through to detailed cost analysis against bespoke product design / Sourcing and negotiation of products and services for elements in our scope of supply from various suppliers and contractors / Close liaison with team members to ensure we are meeting customer and company requirements and providing technical and commercial support as required / Responding to customer’s telephone enquiries for prices and technical information / Order review and assist in the preparation of detailed manufacturing instructions and hand-over documentation to the Contracts Office.
