Cochran approved by the Southern African Gas Association

As part of Cochran's continuing development of the market the Cochran Simplex and Triplex ranges of gas fired pressure jet burners have now been independently tested and approved by the Southern African Gas Association (SAGA). The burners are now certified to meet the requirements of the local Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) and Pressure Equipment Regulation (PER) R 734 published 15 July 2009.


Using biomass to heat water: unconventional, but effective

Boilers for industrial steam applications have been fired on fossil fuels. This has been the established wisdom. Although this predominantly remains the case, there is increasing interest in the use of biomass to generate steam. The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme has increased the growth rate of biomass installations, particularly in hot water applications.

Are You Ready for the Medium Combustion Plant Directive?

One of the single most important directives for many years in the combustion industry is about to become EU law and will soon be transposed into UK law. If you own or operate any combustion plant with a thermal input of between 1MW and 50MW you will be affected. This means anyone with a boiler generating around 1.5 tonnes of steam or more, or using a CHP or diesel generator of around 500kVA or more, will need to know about this directive. There are estimated to be at least 15,000 such plants in the UK alone.

Coal Fired Boiler positioned aboard the 'Vital Spark' Steam Puffer

Further to our news story in April 2015, the restoration of the famous Steam Puffer vessel named VIC 27 or 'Auld Reekie', (possibly best known as the 'Vital Spark' in the 1990's TV series) continues apace. Last week the Managing Director of the Crinan Boat Yard, John Dunlop along with a film crew from Caledonia TV, visited Cochran to document the Coal Fired Boiler's despatch for a 3-part BBC series following this restoration project.


Cochran to attend CEA Conference Workshops - Clydebank, Glasgow

Combustion Engineering Association (CEA) are holding the latest in their popular BG01 Compliance Conference Workshops on 18th - 19th of August 2015. The venue is the Beardmore Hotel, Clydebank, Glasgow. They are also holding a one day Biomass Health & Safety Workshop at the same location on 20th August. These events can be booked separately or you can take advantage and attend both events.


Boiler Operation & Safety Awareness One Day Seminars

Bookings are now being taken for Cochran Ltd's popular one day hotel based training seminars. The next regionally arranged events are scheduled for: Wetherby - Venue: Mercure Wetherby Hotel on 18th August 2015. Although this seminar is nearly sold out there are a few spare places remaining.


Cochran attend Royal Opening of The Lakes Distillery

Cochran were proud to be present at the recent opening of the new £7m development, The Lakes Distillery, by HRH Princess Anne. A Turnkey project - Cochran manufactured, installed and commissioned a 2000 kg/hr Wee Chieftain Steam Boiler, accompanying hotwell tank, blowdown vessel and water treatment equipment. Cochran also project managed the installation of the chimney and of the pipework both in the boilerhouse and the still house.
