CEA were approached by UK China Training Ltd to host a delegation from
the Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision Department of
Guangdong Province, P.R. China (essentially the department responsible
for the inspection of steam boilers and associated plant). They
requested CEA to arrange a seminar covering:-
- National codes, standards and legislative framework for hot water boilers, steam boilers & large water tube boilers
- Introduction to the safe operation, regarding installation, use,
repair of hot water boilers, steam boilers & large water tube
boilers
- Introduction of the necessary qualifications, training courses available & H & S to engineers working in this area
CEA were happy to accommodate this request and one of our member
companies Cochran Ltd agreed to host the 26 strong delegation and
arrange the seminar. Cochran have had a long history of manufacturing
boilers for the Chinese market and were the first international
boilermaker to be approved and certified by the Chinese government. Dave
Young (General Manager & Technical Manager) gave a presentation on
the aspects of good European boiler design and modifications required to
meet the Chinese legislation. This was followed by Cochran's CEA
accredited Training Manager presenting the requirements and benefits of
the CEA Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) both of which were
well received and stimulated some lively discussion.
The delegation were then treated to a tour of the factory where
they were able to see full range of design and manufacturing techniques
applied in building boilers, including a large 20 t/h steam boiler that
Cochran are currently building for a tobacco plant in Xuzhou, China
