Electricians Mate

The Electrician’s Mate will provide essential support to electricians, enabling the smooth and timely completion of electrical projects within a safety-critical manufacturing environment. By assisting with both technical, and manual tasks, the Electrician’s Mate helps ensure systems are installed and maintained safely, effectively, and to a high quality. This role is vital in promoting electrical safety, improving productivity, and supporting the overall success of electrical operations, while contributing to the reliable production of industrial boiler systems.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities


Boiler Responsibilities:

  • Fit flexible conduits to boilers as per tradesman’s instructions
  • Mount control panel
  • Earth boiler frame
  • Disconnect panel/accessories for any boilers requiring stripping before despatch
  • Stock check electrical items and order via CEF order sheet
  • General cleaning of electrical waste
  • Fabricate and mount bottom blowdown conduits to boilers

Containerised Plantrooms Responsibilities:

  • Install cable containment i.e cable trays, Unistrut, conduits from tradesman instruction
  • Run cables throughout installation and cable tie

Control Panel Responsibilities:

  • Layout chassis plates
  • Mark, drill and cut out enclosures
  • Assemble smaller panels for burners
Ensure compliance with national electrical standards, safety regulations and company policies.

Essential Skills, Qualities and Experience:

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring practices and industrial control systems
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions clearly from the Electrical Supervisor and associated tradesmen
  • Safety-conscious with a proactive approach to risk awareness
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering quality workmanship
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to learn from experienced electricians
  • Ability to identify faults and assist in finding practical solutions
  • Can prioritise tasks, and complete in required timeframes
  • Positive attitude to work, and ability to maintain strong working relationships with the team and other departments

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure confined spaces, heat, noise, and industrial hazards
  • Availability for overtime, shift work, and emergency call-ins as needed

Desirable Skills and Qualities:

  • Qualification in an electrical discipline
  • Safety certifications
  • Ability to interpret and follow electrical drawings
  • Previous electrical experience working with high-voltage equipment, motor controls and automated systems in a manufacturing environment
