Powerful New Force in Biomass

Category: General
Published:

Two of Scotland’s leading companies in their fields have announced a new joint co-operation to revolutionise the use of biomass for energy production in the industrial market.

Cochran Ltd is the UK’s oldest and largest supplier of industrial steam and hot-water boiler plant. Scot Heat & Power Ltd is one of Scotland’s largest independent suppliers of biomass fuel stock, including wood chip and pellets. The two companies have signed an agreement to co-operate in the development of industrial biomass projects.

The combination of the expertise and skills in the two companies will enable them to offer a complete package of biomass boiler, heat recovery equipment, fuel supply, handling and clean up equipment. As well as the expertise to offer an integrated solution the system offered qualifies for the UK government Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. One of the criteria for RHI qualification is to demonstrate that reliable fuel supply contracts are in place. This is an area of expertise that Scot Heat & Power bring to the party, along with project finance assistance, when appropriate.

Drawing on Cochran’s project experience in designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing larger industrial steam and hot-water systems the partnership will be able to offer the integration of the biomass system with conventional oil and gas fired back up plant, as necessary.

Commenting on the agreement Malcolm Snowie, MD of Scot Heat & Power said “We have been at the forefront of the development of the Scottish biomass fuel market through offering first class service and logistics, as well as boiler systems, and we are delighted to tie up with the UK’s foremost supplier of industrial boiler systems and service. We think it is the perfect fit for developing the industrial biomass market. Cochran bring the level of experience in project engineering, management and integration that these larger industrial projects require”

Tom Ritchie, MD of Cochran added “We believe that Scot Heat & Power`s existing market exposure, through the supply of biomass fuel and equipment, can be enhanced by Cochran’s steam and hot-water system expertise and the technical and nationwide service support that we offer. The strengths of the two companies can combine to offer the market a total energy solution, from supply of equipment, financing and fuel through to the full installation and integration of the system and after-market care packages, if the customer so requires.”
