Following
on from the successful turnkey installation of a new Energy Centre (see
News article from Feb 2012), Billerud Beetham Ltd once again turned to
Cochran Ltd. to upgrade their existing 9000kg/hr Thermax steam boiler.
Although the existing boiler was over 35 years old it was still in good
condition but the combustion equipment had become outdated and
inefficient, with the controller now obselete and spare parts
increasingly difficult to source.
The client explored various options and decided the solution was to
fit a Cochran EquiNox natural gas burner and panel complete with the
latest microprocessor controls, providing enhanced combustion and fuel
savings. A variable speed drive supplied with the burner package
reduces electricity consumption associated with the forced draught fan
motor.
In 2013 Billerud Beetham intends to replace the burner and control on
the final boiler and install a new central control system for the all
Cochran boilers.
This new combustion equipment was successfully fitted and commissioned during the planned maintenance shut down.

The Cochran EquiNox will provide Billerud Beetham with more efficient
and cost saving combustion.
